Question 1

What is the Cambridge IGCSE pathway?

Accepted Answer

It is the route through the Cambridge Pathway that leads to the IGCSE qualification. It starts with Cambridge Primary, continues through Cambridge Lower Secondary and reaches the IGCSE examinations at Upper Secondary, usually for ages 14 to 16.

Question 2

At what age do students take the IGCSE?

Accepted Answer

Students typically study the IGCSE from age 14 to 16 over two years. In many Indian schools this corresponds to Grades 9 and 10.

Question 3

Is Cambridge Lower Secondary the same as IGCSE?

Accepted Answer

No. Lower Secondary is a curriculum framework for ages 11 to 14 that prepares students. The IGCSE is a separate qualification with external examinations.

Question 4

Is the Cambridge Checkpoint compulsory?

Accepted Answer

No. Checkpoint tests are optional and schools decide whether to use them. They provide an external benchmark and help with subject guidance, but they are not a formal requirement for starting the IGCSE.

Question 5

Can a child join the Cambridge pathway after Primary?

Accepted Answer

Often yes, depending on the school’s admission process. Students joining later may need extra support to adjust to Cambridge’s enquiry based approach, so ask the school how it handles this.

Question 6

What comes after the IGCSE?

Accepted Answer

Most students move to AS and A Level study, which forms Cambridge Advanced. Others choose different routes for Grade 11, so it is worth checking the admission criteria of the destination school in advance.

Question 7

How is the Cambridge IGCSE pathway different from CBSE?

Accepted Answer

Cambridge places more emphasis on enquiry, subject choice and international benchmarking. CBSE offers structured depth and close alignment with national competitive examinations. The better fit depends on the child and the family’s plans.
